Mini Mood Board: Mourning

Artist Motoi Yamamoto's "Salt" series derived from the untimely death of his sister at age 24. Since it is a traditional symbol for purification and mourning in Japanese culture, Motoi began creating art out of the mineral in a effort to preserve his memories. I love it paired with Caroline Knopf's image from The Whaling Widow photo series. While I found this image first and the salt labyrinth after, I like how the idea of purification and mourning come play out in both.
