I was pleasantly surprised when I entered the pop-up space on Bowery and Delancey. There were already about two dozen people, mostly women, gathered around a communal style breakfast table, eating croissants and drinking coffee. Like a gracious host, Garance stood up and personally greeted each person as they entered – something unheard of in NYC. Naturally a stationery collection would be a no-brainer for someone with these kind of endearing manners. I had seen her give a talk at the Alliance Française the week prior and even in front of 150+ people, she came off as intimate and friendly. Its so refreshing when a person's public persona is truly a reflection of his/her personal one – in a good way. Don't you agree?
I urge you to visit the Open Studio this weekend and meet Garance – you won't be disappointed. There's a line-up of activities both days from tattoos to calligraphy. And, if you can't make it to the launch event, be sure to check out the full line of stationery, including note cards, to-do lists, calendars, iPhone cases and art prints are available through her online shop and at Rifle Paper.
