The exploration for topography landed me on an iconic image from my generation of musical influence – Joy Division's album art for Unknown Pleasures, by designer Peter Saville. The cover, based on an image of radio waves positioned on a large field of black, creates a landscape of mountainous forms. It's a fitting pair for the black and white image of Kohei Nawa's installation. Here, the artist uses foam to create a massive, ethereal terrain. The clouds of soap undulate, swell and eventually melt into a puddle on the floor.
